The Information Communication Technology Program at Central Huron is very pleased to be able to offer a High Skills Major Program. Students can choose to sign up for the Information Communication Technology Specialist High Skills Major in grade 11. Areas where students can choose to specialize in are varied and presently include animation, photography, digital image manipulation, video, and radio broadcast.
The SHSM program will provide students with the opportunity to take a bundle of specialized credits in the ICT field and participate in Certification and Training programs. ICT SHSM students will also be involved in many experiential learning opportunities and participate in reach ahead activities both in and out of the school. The program prior to SHSM has had many successes, including several first place awards locally and provincially. We are very excited to offer students additional opportunities for achievement in this exciting and expanding field.
Students involved in the program have been very busy this semester. They have created a video to request a $20,000.00 educational grant from Best Buy. If we are fortunate enough to receive the grant, the money will go towards purchasing computer equipment for classrooms that do not currently have anything. Students have created a Nutritional Video for the Avon Maitland District School Board, promotional videos for various areas of our school and worked with Student Council to bring video announcements into classrooms. On November 1st, a small group of students co-hosted the morning show for CKNX. Last but not least, High Skills Major Students have applied for a SpeakUp Grant to host a Photography Show in the spring at the high school. This will provide students with the opportunity to showcase their photographic talents.
