Hello Parents

It's hard to believe, but it will be time to start wrapping things up for our 2011-2012 school year.

If you've never come to a meeting, this is one to come to. There will be food and refreshements, a summary of the year, and the latest news for next year.
It will be a very short, informal meeting.

Date: Wednesday May 30 - 6pm—food—(bribery—please plan to come). The location to be determined by the weather—save the date and stay tuned.

Parenting and Social Media Workshop

NEXT WEEK! Please join us for our Parenting and Social Media workshop coming up on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at Central Huron Secondary School in Clinton. Hear from international speaker Ryan Broll and join the discussion about the many different types of social media available and easily accessible to today's youth. Don't Miss Your Chance to be Inspired—Ignite Parents is Wednesday Night

The Avon Maitland Parent Involvement Committee would like to invite you to attend the first Ignite Parents event ever held in Canada.

The goal of Ignite Parents is to engage, inspire and enlighten parents. On Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at the Arden Park Hotel in Stratford passionate people will come together for an exciting evening of five minute high energy presentations in the field of education. Prepare to be engaged! Prepare to be enlightened! The first 200 to attend receive a free gift bag plus you are eligible for door prizes including a Kobo eReader and carrying case.

6:30pm – Doors open. Enjoy refreshments and a cash bar and browse the various exhibits – maybe pick up a pamphlet or two!
7:15pm – Presentations begin
8:00pm – Intermission. Enjoy more refreshments and check out the displays
8:15pm – Final presentations of the evening
9:00pm – End of presentations and evening wrap up but feel free to mingle, chat and say hello!

Ignite Parents!

OSAP Presentation

 An OSAP presentation is scheduled for Tuesday April 24th at 10:15 in Rm 102.  All students pursuing post secondary education next year are welcome.  Parents are welcome also.

Grade Eights and Parents Info Night

Approximately 250 people came to CHSS on January 17 to enjoy a spaghetti dinner and to tour the school. Grade Eights and their parents had the opportunity to learn about the range of programs and to see CHSS's facilities.

Grade 8 Student and Parent Night

The Grade 8 Student and Parent Night on the calendar will be taking place on Tuesday, January 17th with a snow date of Wednesday, January 18th. The spaghetti dinner begins at 5:00 and runs until 6:15.  An interactive tour of the school begins at 6:30 and finishes in the cafeteria at 8:30 where refreshments will be served and prizes can be won.

Commencement and Awards Ceremony

Commencement - /kə ˈmɛns mənt/ (noun) the act of starting something...

Graduation is typically seen as an ending, the celebration of completion and accomplishment. We reflect on the achievement of the students and take pride that we—whether parents, teachers, friends, or employers—may have played some role in helping them arrive successfully at the culmination of their high school years.

The ceremony of Commencement, however, does not mark an ending, but a beginning. Whether they are entering the world of work, university, or college, students face world of new opportunities and decisions as they enter adulthood. For me as a teacher, there is no more gratifying school event than Commencement. This ceremony is a celebration of our purpose as educators. Seeing the excitement and pride of the students who return for this event after having had a taste of their new lives fills me with renewed energy for my job.

Congratulations to the award winners and to the graduating class of 2011.
